HELPFUL RESOURCES

We hope you will take the time to educate yourself through our Learning Cloud to make a knowledgeable decision if a Vizsla is the right fit for your family & lifestyle. If we do not have a planned litter in the near future, we recommend visiting the South Coast Vizsla Club website which represents only reputable breeders who conduct the required health checks for the breeding sires and dams recommended by the Vizsla Club of America (OFA Hips, Thyroid, & Eyes).

These breeders breed for temperament, health, conformation, hunting, and companionship. This should be your first place to start your puppy search. If these breeders do not have a litter available, they will be able to refer you to another reputable breeder with an upcoming litter, as they all know and communicate with each other on a regular basis.

Be patient and take time to learn & research about good dog breeders. You can also attend dog shows and other interesting AKC events like agility, hunt, field, & obedience trials. These events are excellent ways to meet breeders and owners. Visit www.infodog.com and/or www.jbradshaw.com to find the next show in your area, or www.akc.org to find an event. If you are considering other breeds, there is no better place to learn more about a breed and their breeders than at a dog show. Though you may think you just want your dog as just as a pet and don't want to show your dog, it still is important to find a breeder that does actively compete with their dogs in AKC events. People often perceive that since they just want a pet that the parents do not need to have titles or health testing. Titles and health tests together indicate that the breeder is doing more than indiscriminately breeding dogs. They are proving that the dogs they breed meet the breed standard in temperament and appearance and potentially will be healthy so that the dog you bring home looks and behaves as you would expect that particular breed to be. In earning titles on the parents they are testing the ability of the dog to be around people, do a job or task, & have a sound temperament.

We recommend starting your search here...

1. Vizsla Club of America

2. American Kennel Club

Keep in mind, the "Find a Puppy" listing on the AKC website is ONLY a classified ad service. The AKC does not endorse nor verify any of the breeders on display. The primary function of the AKC is to keep records of pedigrees and events. It is not an organization that verifies quality of either dogs or breeders. Remember, it is most a breeder who is an AKC Breeder of Merit (http://www.akc.org/breederofmerit/breederofmerit_list.cfm) and a member of the Vizsla Club of America (vcaweb.org) and thoroughly vet them as well. It is important to research the Dam & Sire's health records on the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (offa.org) database and to find health clearances for multi-generations on the parents and relatives. That's the biggest indicator if you are getting a healthy, well-bred pup. Also, you should reasonably expect to pay $2,500(+/-) for a well-bred Vizsla from someone reputable. Some breeders include almost everything in that pricing - microchip, AKC and/or DNA Registration, food, dishes, leashes and collars, tick pullers, blankets, tooth brushes, toys, chewies, books/handouts, etc. Good luck on your puppy search
